Fix Damaged App Messages

  • administrators

A lot of people write to me and comment on some of the apps on cmacapps.com claiming the app is broken move to trash etc etc..

Some may actually be broken so we try to test as many as possible! But most comments are completely wrong and the app works fine.

Here is a common error message for examples i'll use StatsCenter,

"StatsCenter" is damaged and can't be
opened. You should move it to the Trash.

This is wrong, lets fix this :)

    1. Open "System Preferences"
    2. Click "System & Privacy"

    3. Unlock the lock (Bottom left)
    4. Select to Allow Apps Downloaded From "Anywhere"

Now reinstall the App to the applications folder and open it

We now have a nicer message that will let us run the app :)

    All done.

If you are on macOS Sierra the Allow apps downloaded from "Anywhere" is missing but you can easily enable it again by running this in Terminal:

    sudo spctl --master-disable
